Vertical Horizons is a new feminist spec fic fanzine. The zine is directly inspired by the original Vertical Horizons–a pioneering Australian fanzine created by female fans, including the fabulous Norma K. Hemming, in the early 1950s–which I learned about recently through my involvement with the creation of the Norma K. Hemming Award. Because of this direct inspiration the new Vertical Horizons publication will also be referred to as Vertical Horizons TNG (the next generation).
The zine is set to have a twice yearly publication schedule, the first issue due for publication late 2009, with an initial commitment of 6 issues. It is to be a fully electronic zine, with issues created and delivered as PDF files. Issues will be available for $5 (Au) each, or $25 for a full six issue subscription. Vertical Horizons is a non-profit fanzine, with all proceeds being donated to Amnesty International’s stop violence against women campaign.
